What is the 3D Design & Pattern Making service?

This is a combined service where our team creates digital patterns and 3D renderings of your garment. Pattern making translates your design into the actual cut pieces needed for production - the flat shapes that get sewn together to create your garment. The 3D rendering brings those patterns to life digitally, giving you a realistic virtual prototype of how the garment will look, fit, and drape before you ever produce a physical sample. Together, they bridge the gap between design concept and production-ready garment.

How much does it cost?

3D Design & Pattern Making costs 4 service credits per request for Designer and Professional plan subscribers. If you don't have a subscription, you can purchase a-la-carte Pattern Making credits from the Credits page. Designer subscribers (10 credits/month) can submit up to 2 requests per month. Professional subscribers (30 credits/month) can submit up to 7.

What's included in a request?

Each request covers both pattern making and 3D rendering for one garment style:
 • Pattern making - production-ready digital patterns based on your garment type, size range, and construction details
 • 3D rendering - a realistic digital visualization of the garment showing fit, drape, and overall look
 • Grading - if you indicate that grading is needed, size grading across your specified size range is included

What information do I need to provide?

 • Garment type and category

 • Whether you have a tech pack

Do I need a tech pack?

Accepted Answer

Having a tech pack makes the process faster and more accurate, but it's not required. The form asks whether you have one so our team knows what level of detail is available. If you don't have a tech pack yet, you can create your own using the templates and assets in ONTHEBIASTUDIO's Tech Packs Studio, or submit a Tech Pack request (3 credits) to have our team create one first. You can also describe your garment in the design description field and upload reference images instead.

Why does grading matter?

Grading is the process of scaling a base pattern up and down to create all the sizes in your size range. If you select "Yes" for grading needed, our team will grade the pattern across your full size range - for example, from XS to XXL. If you only need a single size (like a sample size), you can select "No" and provide just the one size you need.

How does 3D rendering help me?

Accepted Answer

3D rendering lets you see a realistic digital version of your garment before spending money on physical samples. This helps you:
 • Catch design issues early (proportions, fit, construction details)
 • Visualize colorways and fabric drape without producing multiple samples
 • Share realistic visuals with buyers, investors, or your team
 • Reduce the number of physical sample rounds needed, saving time and money

Can I upload reference files?

Yes. The form includes two upload fields - one for reference images (design sketches, flat drawings, inspiration photos, existing garment photos) and another for documents (tech packs, PDFs, spec sheets, or other supporting files). The more visual references you provide, the more accurate your patterns and 3D renderings will be.

What if I have a large number of styles?

If you need patterns and 3D renderings for a full collection - say 20, 50, 80+ styles - submitting individual requests at 4 credits each may not be the most efficient approach. What happens after I submit my request?

Accepted Answer

Your credits are debited immediately, you'll receive a confirmation email, and your request status is set to "Pending." Our team reviews your submission - garment type, construction details, size range, fabric type - and begins creating your patterns and 3D rendering. You can track the status anytime from the My Requests page.

Question 11

Can I request revisions?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Once your patterns and 3D renderings are delivered, you can request revisions through the My Requests page. Each revision costs 1 service credit (for subscribers) or 1 revision credit (a-la-carte). You can upload additional reference images and documents with your revision notes. Note: revisions cover changes to the patterns and renderings our team created for you. If you're requesting changes from a manufacturer based on the patterns (like sample corrections), that's between you and your factory - no ONTHEBIAS credits needed.

How is 3D Design & Pattern Making different from a Tech Pack request?

A Tech Pack (3 credits) is the full specification document - flat sketches, measurements, construction details, BOM, colorways - everything a factory needs on paper to produce your garment. 3D Design & Pattern Making (4 credits) creates the actual digital patterns (the cut pieces) and a 3D virtual prototype of the garment. They complement each other: the tech pack tells the factory what to make, and the patterns show them how to cut it. Many users submit both.

How is this different from Design-to-Delivery?

3D Design & Pattern Making (4 credits) focuses specifically on creating patterns and 3D renderings for one garment. Design-to-Delivery (16 credits) is the full end-to-end service that includes design, tech pack, pattern making + 3D, supplier matching, and production management all bundled together. If you already have your design and tech pack and just need patterns and a virtual prototype, this is the right choice.

Can I submit a request for multiple styles at once?

Accepted Answer

Each request covers one garment style. If you need patterns and 3D renderings for multiple styles, you'll submit a separate request for each one (4 credits each).

Do I need to be logged in?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You must be logged in to your ONTHEBIAS account to access the 3D Design & Pattern Making form and submit a request.

Where can I check my remaining credits?

Accepted Answer

Your current credit balance is displayed at the top of the request page. You can also view all your balances on the Credits page or in ONTHEBIASTUDIO. For subscribers, the display shows your total service credits and how many 3D Design & Pattern Making requests that covers at 4 credits each.
